Motherland: Fort Salem (spoilers for the pilot)
There must have been a lot of money that went into advertising "Motherland: Fort Salem" because I saw that ad everywhere. While there was nothing explicitly queer in the commercial, I could tell immediately that one of the main characters was gay. It was a Freeform show after all and they have a history of putting a lesbian in every female-led show. So I decided to check it out and boy oh boy am I glad I did.
The gay character is in the middle! In advertiser words, of the three main characters she is the most important. The screen time division confirms this, as it appears it will be Raelle who has the most important plot that connects the heroes to the villains. A plot that is led by her being attracted to a probably very evil witch trying to convince her to join the mass-bombing, setting-their-faces-on-fire bad guys. Just in the first episode, Fort Salem gave Raelle and her partner several scenes on par with typical straight scenes.
Now so far I've been overall impressed with the show. I think the writing is mostly well done, the cinematography is beautiful (again especially for a Freeform show, look at that first gif), and I'm really excited to see how it progresses. And yes, even though half of the lesbian duo is evil and will probably do some unconscionable things before eventual defeat, the other half is clearly a protagonist that we'll get to see struggle with her morality and no doubt have one of the biggest parts to play in the story. I would highly recommend that you start watching "Motherland: Fort Salem" as soon as you can, unless you're a little squeamish.
