Making "Visible" More Visible
The perfect show doesn't exi-
Oh.
So I've officially found one of my favorite, if not my favorite, tv shows recently and it came from the most unexpected place: Apple TV+. Visible is a five part docuseries going through the history of LGBTQ+ representation on television featuring the opinions of dozens of professionals from the industry. Amidst prominent activists and writers, the series also features big names like Ellen, Billy Crystal, and Neil Patrick Harris.
Visible talks about the harmful portrayals of early gay characters used just for laughs, the news coverage that allowed the gay rights movement to progress, the AIDs crisis, all the way up to current milestones like the first ever non-binary character. My family and I watch the show together and both me, notable gay encyclopedia, and my father, self-proclaimed know-it-all, have learned a lot from just the first three episodes.
The show has not gotten nearly enough attention for how profoundly well-done it is, so I recommend any person reading this click off immediately and watch it somehow. Even if that means stooping to Apple TV+.
